London Opera Guild

Looking for like-minded opera enthusiasts in the London area? Indulge your love of the opera and support the activities of the Canadian Opera Company by joining the London Guild of the COC.


Members meet regularly to learn about the upcoming COC productions and to share their love of this exciting artform.

The London Guild supports COC performances in classrooms, provides financial assistance to promising young artists and is involved in the development of our local arts scene.

Ernest Redekop is a professor emeritus, UWO, a singer and president of the London Opera Guild. Ted Baerg is a professor in the Don Wright Faculty of Music, UWO, the head of the opera division and one of Canada's foremost operatic baritones.

The London Opera Guild Annual Scholarship Winners Concert

Nov. 7, 2010 at 2 p.m., CentreSpace at Bishop Cronyn Memorial Church, William at Queens, London

Five students of the Don Wright Faculty of Music, UWO, winners of the LOG competition, will perform and be awarded scholarships.

John Holland on John Adams' Nixon in China

Jan. 23, 2011, 2 p.m., Aeolian Hall, Dundas at Rectory, London

John is a graduate of Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western where he received a Masters Degree in Vocal Performance. He has had  operatic roles  at the Grand Theatre in London (co-productions of Orchestra London Canda and Pacific Opera Victoria); he is baritone soloist at New St. James Presbyterian Church in London, and he conducts a choir of his own. He is planning to enter doctoral studies in music at UWO.

Howard Dyck on Richard Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos

March 20, 2011, 2 p.m., Aeolian Hall, Dundas at Rectory, London

Howard Dyck is the former host of CBC's Choral Concert and Saturday Afternoon at the Opera.
He has just retired as music director of the Grand Philharmoni Choir of Kitchener, a post he held
for 38 years.
