Our New Carmen

When I was at the airport to leave for New York, just around noon yesterday, I received a phone call from Beth Clayton who told me that she had decided to withdraw from the title role in our production of Carmen. She hadn't been well for all three weeks of rehearsals and, over the weekend, had come to the conclusion that she wouldn't be able to give a performance that would do her or the COC proud. A new Season

You will agree that this deserves a separate blog entry: Today the COC opens its 2009/10 season with the much anticipated return of Brian Macdonald's classical production of Puccini's Madama Butterfly, for the first time at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. We are happy and excited to be back and look forward to seeing you at our performances.

Please join me in wishing all of our company members a great opening night.

It almost feels like giving birth to a baby, the difference being a pregnancy that can last three years or longer.
