At the COC we ended the week with the final performance of our annual summer camp's first week. Around sixty children had worked since Monday to create their own operatic version of Cinderella, based on Rossini's opera La Cenerentola (which we will present in the spring of 2011) and a few other operas (very surprisingly, the performance started with the music to "Fuoco di gioa" from Verdi's Otello). With the help of our dedicated group of volunteers and our great education staff our young opera campers had also built their own sets, props, and costumes for the performance. The enthusiasm and commitment with which they presented the result of this past week to an audience of parents and families was truly contagious. Who says opera isn't young, contemporary and relevant?
