Acclaimed Egyptian-Canadian vocalist Maryem Tollar and a colourful cast of characters explore fairy tales, legends and myths from around the world, drawing on timeless stories from Arabic, African, Persian, Balkan and Roma Gypsy cultures.

The COC is throwing a party to celebrate the most performed Canadian opera of all time, Dean Burry’s The Brothers Grimm. Attendees can meet the composer, enjoy light refreshments and take part in a variety of activities, including an exhibition chronicling the opera’s travels across Canada and abroad.

The Brothers Grimm
The COC presents The Brothers Grimm by Dean Burry, a family-friendly one-act opera about Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, who set out to create the most famous book of tales ever written and uncover memorable characters including Rapunzel, Little Red Cap and Rumpelstiltskin. The 45-minute opera is sung in English and performed by the young artists of the COC Ensemble Studio, and concludes with a post-performance Q&A with the cast.
