A Chat With Catherine Malfitano

Catherine Malfitano is a legendary opera singer and director who will be making her COC debut as director of the double bill A Florentine Tragedy/Gianni Schicchi. Gianmarco Segato, our retail and editorial co-ordinator who will be familiar to fans of the COC Podcast Series, sat down with her to talk about the path that led to her career as an opera director.

Play the video below or download the audio mp3 to listen to part one of the interview. If you like what you hear, keep checking back: in the coming weeks we'll be posting parts two and three.

Want to be Part of Hoffmann's Tales?

With only one performance of Love From Afar and two performances of Tosca to go, it's time to look ahead to the opera opening our spring season: The Tales of Hoffmann. This beloved French opera features a storyteller who spins fantastic yarns about his past loves – and there may be an opportunity for you to become part of the stories!

We're looking for supernumeraries, meaning non-singing "extras" who will perform on stage. We need five women and five men who are:

  • Under the age of 25
  • If female, between 5’3” and 5’9”
  • If male, between 5’7” and 6’1” and in good shape (will be performing shirtless)
  • Available on evenings and weekends between March 9 (when rehearsals begin) and May 14 (the date of the final performance)
  • Available for a few daytime rehearsals, currently scheduled for March 20, 21, and 30
  • Energetic and comfortable on stage, with a sense of fun

Don't be shy: if you meet the requirements above, contact with your measurements and a recent photo.
