Behind the Scenes at an Aida Rehearsal

The opening night of Aida is a little over a week away, and the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts is bursting with activity. I had the chance to peek in and take some photos of one of the ORNO (Orchestra Note) rehearsals last week, while the COC Orchestra rehearsed Act IV with Michele Capalbo.

Here's a look at the percussion section, including the gong:

Here's the brass:

Here's a row of double basses (and Alexander Neef is at the far right, behind the music stand, following along with his score):

Michele Capalbo, who will sing six performances of Aida, is at the left. She sounded gorgeous:

Our Music Director, Johannes Debus, presided over all.

If you find the rehearsal process as interesting as I do, I encourage you to attend our open ORCA rehearsal on Sept. 25 as part of our Culture Days festivities. This is the first time in the COC's history that a working rehearsal will be open to the general public, and I hope you'll take advantage! There are only 500 tickets available—first come, first served.
