The inaugural Ensemble Studio Competition in November 2011 was the first time that final auditions for the COC Ensemble Studio were open to a public audience. Out of 10 talented finalists competing that evening in front of a sold-out crowd at the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre, four were selected to join the 2012/2013 Ensemble Studio. Before they officially join us in mid-August, the four singers have busy summers ahead of them. Here is a quick preview of their summer projects:

(L) Sasha Djihanian and (R) Owen McCausland

Sasha Djihanian competed in the Montreal International Music Competition in early June, and now moves on to the Castleton Festival in Washington, DC, to sing Micaëla in Lorin Maazel's production of Carmen. She then spends time in Chautauqua, NY, for coachings and to work in her repertoire.

Owen McCausland sings Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi with Opera on the Avalon in Newfoundland at the end of June. After a relaxing July, Owen travels to Prince Edward Island to perform a recital at the Indian River Music Festival on August 4.

(L) Cameron McPhail and (R) Claire de Sevigne

Cameron McPhail completed his Masters degree from Yale and finished his first production of The Rape of Lucretia as Tarquinius with Yale Opera in late spring. Summer takes him to Santa Barbara, CA, where he sings Nick Shadow in Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress as a fellow at Marilyn Horne's Music Academy of the West

Claire de Sévigné sings the role of Oksana G. with Tapestry New Opera in their ongoing workshop of The Enslavement and Liberation of Oksana G in June, along with current Ensemble Studio member Christopher Enns. At the end of June, Claire travels to Aspen, CO, to sing and train at the Aspen Opera Theater Center.
