The 12th and 21st centuries meld seductively in acclaimed Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho’s Love from Afar, a haunting and vivid musical creation that has become one of the most performed 21st-century operas. Weary of his current life and anxious to explore love’s frontiers, a medieval troubadour from France hears of a beautiful woman living in Tripoli. A pilgrim carries messages of yearning between the lovers, until the troubadour finally journeys to meet his distant desire, putting reality and fantasy to the test.
On stage at the Four Seasons Centre, 145 Queen St. W., Toronto. Performance time is approximately two hours, 35 minutes including one intermission. Sung in French with English SURTITLES™.
