Bold new Canadian meets early Baroque classic.
Opera’s beginnings merge with a Canadian world premiere. Monteverdi’s exquisite, early Baroque gems are drawn from classical tales while Canadian composer Barbara Monk Feldman was inspired by the beauty, light, and colour of her native Gaspé Peninsula to create Pyramus and Thisbe (2010), a timeless story of star-crossed lovers. Composed 400 years apart, the pieces illustrate the beauty of the human voice and the magic of musical storytelling. Our own Johannes Debus conducts.
