Donato DiStefano

Bass Donato DiStefano returns to the COC as Don Magnifico, having made his debut in 1994’s Le Comte Ory (Tutor) with subsequent performances as Dr. Bartolo in the 1999 production of The Barber of Seville and Dr. Bartolo in 2007’s The Marriage of Figaro. During the 2009/2010 season he appeared at Dallas Opera as Don Pasquale, the Metropolitan Opera as Simone in Gianni Schicchi, and as Rossini’s Bartolo in Tokyo, Brussels, Leipzig, Munich, Lisbon and at Washington National Opera. Other recent appearances include Mustafà (L’Italiana in Algeri) at Pesaro; Don Geronimo (Il Turco in Italia) at Teatro alla Scala, Milan; Don Magnifico at Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie and at Opéra national de Lorraine in Nancy; and, the title role in Gianni Schicchi in Frankfurt and Tel Aviv. His recordings include an award-winning DVD of La serva padrona with La Petite Bande. Upcoming engagements include Sulpice in The Daughter of the Regiment at San Diego Opera, Don Magnifico at Minnesota Opera, Don Pasquale at Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Mustafà at Nancy and Rossini’s Bartolo in Munich and Hamburg.
