Inside Opera: Creating Lucia: Part Two

The Canadian Opera Company's popular Inside Opera video series is back with a behind-the-scenes look at Lucia di Lammermoor. In case you missed it, revisit our first video in the spring series, Creating Lucia: Part One, featuring soprano Anna Christy and director David Alden discussing her interpretation of the famous role. 

In Creating Lucia: Part Two, Anna Christy reveals her excitement about singing at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, discusses her artistic connection with director David Alden, and the trust it takes to bring out a great performance. Watch the video for a sneak peek of the rehearsal process for Lucia di Lammermoor, as David Alden directs a scene between Anna Christy and bass Oren Gradus (Raimondo).

Inside Opera: William Zeitler and the Glass Armonica

The Canadian Opera Company's popular Inside Opera video series is back with a behind-the-scenes look at Lucia di Lammermoor. In case you missed it, revisit our first video in the series, Creating Lucia: Part One, featuring soprano Anna Christy and director David Alden discussing her interpretation of the famous role. 

 
In William Zeitler and the Glass Armonica, learn about the rare instrument joining the COC orchestra for the spring production of Lucia di Lammermoor. Invented by Benjamin Franklin in 1761, the glass armonica was originally included in Donizetti's opera, but was later replaced with a flute solo instead. Watch as composer and performer William Zeitler shares the sound of this unique instrument.

Inside Opera: Creating Lucia: Part One

The Canadian Opera Company's popular Inside Opera video series is back, and this time our videos will go behind the scenes of all three of the company's spring operas: Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, R. Strauss's Salome and Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites. The first video for the spring highlights the popular American soprano Anna Christy, who is making her COC debut in a challenging performance that is quickly becoming her signature role.

Our spring performance run of Lucia di Lammermoor marks the third time that Christy and director David Alden have worked together on this production of Donizetti's bel canto classic. In Creating Lucia: Part One, Christy and Alden discuss the evolution of Lucia, Christy's process of "becoming" Lucia again, and how she interprets this famous role.
