Algerian-born pianist Mehdi Ghazi presents an evocative hour of music featuring Beethoven, Liszt, Ligeti and Bach. Ghazi grew up amidst civil war, but was introduced to Western classical music by his father. A chance encounter with a pianist from Quebec on a tour of North Africa gave Ghazi the opportunity to study music in Canada. Since then, he has become a rising young star in the Canadian classical piano world. Watch the video below for a preview of Ghazi performing Brahms at Rideau Hall.

Thursday, January 31, 2013 – 12 p.m. – Artists of the COC Orchestra – A Wagner Celebration

Kicking off the 200th anniversary celebrations of the birth of Richard Wagner, artists of the COC Orchestra present the exquisite chamber work Siegfried-Idyll. The concert also pays tribute to one of Wagner’s most revered predecessors with the Quintet in E-flat Major Piano and Winds, K. 452 by Mozart, of whom Wagner said “certain things in Mozart can and will never be excelled.”
