A Look at a Tosca Costume Fitting

Rehearsals for Tosca start later this month, and the costume fittings are already beginning. Tosca is set in the summer of the year 1800, during the early years of the Napoleonic wars (the Battle of Marengo is a plot point in the opera), and set and costume designer Kevin Knight strove for historical accuracy in his designs. Here are some photos of the fitting for chorus member Sung Chung:

His costume includes a striped tailcoat worn over a vest with a neckcloth.

Here's how it looks from the back:

And here it is all put together, from the shoulders down.

Adrianne Pieczonka on Tosca

Adrianne Pieczonka, the Toronto soprano who most recently entranced COC audiences as Ariadne in Ariadne auf Naxos, will soon be taking on one of opera's most quintessential "diva" roles: Floria Tosca. In this video trailer, she talks about what makes the role of Tosca exciting for her – and which dramatic moment she found unsettling to perform.

Note: production photos and footage are from the COC's 2008 production of Tosca, also returning to our stage.
