• At Home With... Marjorie Owens

    By Marjorie Owens

Over the next little while, we’ll be checking in with members of our Canadian Opera Company family to find out how they’re keeping busy at home during this time of physical distancing. From their latest Netflix binge to testing new recipes to establishing a work-from-home routine, they’ll share what keeps them grounded and entertained.

    Marjorie Owens – Soprano

Marjorie was one of our Turandots in Puccini's Turandot this past fall and was meant to perform the role of Senta in Wagner's The Flying Dutchman this spring.

    Richard Strauss’ Elektra

I’ve been studying this role recently because I’ll make my debut singing her next season. I’ve always adored Strauss but especially the crazy Strauss: Elektra, Salome, Die Frau ohne Schatten, Ariadne auf Naxos. So I’ve been excited to delve into Elektra. Her insanity has kept me sane during this pandemic!

    Lizzo

So I’ve been having quite a few solo dance parties in my apartment since the Stay at Home order here in Virginia. Lizzo is one of my favourite artists so I’ve been blasting “Truth Hurts” and “Karaoke” and dancing like no one is watching.

    The West Wing

During the self-quarantine, I’ve been staying in touch with friends and family. A wonderful colleague, Crystal Manich, has never seen Aaron Sorkin’s The West Wing so we’re having watch parties from afar to tackle the first season. It’s one of my favourite series because of its witty banter, optimism, honesty, and humour.

The Canadian Opera Company and other arts organizations in Toronto are facing unprecedented financial challenges due to the effects of COVID-19. If it is possible for you at this time, we respectfully ask you to consider making a donation.
