• HADRIAN Adorned: Jewellery Inspired by the Opera

    By COC Staff

    Gillian Steinhardt
There’s one thing you should know about jewellery designed by celebrity stylist Gillian Steinhardt: her work is never an accessory to a look — it is the look. Her pieces have been spotted on the necks and wrists of Nicole Kidman, Alexis Bledel, and Rachel Bilson, among others, and featured in cover shoots for magazines including FASHION, In Style, and Elle. Now, she’s designing a capsule collection, exclusively for the October world premiere of Rufus Wainwright’s Hadrian at the Canadian Opera Company.

Steinhardt grew up in Toronto but soon chased her interest in fashion right to the steps of New York’s prestigious Parsons School of Design. She followed this with an education in fiber arts and art history at Montreal’s Concordia University, textile design in Mexico and Istanbul, and jewellery design back in New York. So it’s no wonder that Steinhardt’s work bears a distinctly global aesthetic. She also often counts the over-the-top glamour of the 1970s, bold geometry of the Art Deco period, and sense of history wrapped in found ancient artifacts as design inspirations, all of which add an unmistakable timeless quality.

Steinhardt’s limited edition Hadrian collection will consist of 8 – 10 gold pieces, all made to order. Order by October 1, 2018 to wear on opening night of Hadrian (October 13, 2018).
