The best in music

From the Opera House features the best in music through in-person and virtual concerts, all staged at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. As with traditional COC programming, these events are meant to reconnect audiences with the experience and emotion of live performance and will be available for a limited time.

Key Change: A Canadian Opera Company Podcast – Episode 16 Available Now!
Digital Audio Series

Co-hosted by classical singer and culture critic Robyn Grant-Moran (a member of the COC’s Circle of Artists) alongside COC Director/Dramaturg-in-Residence Julie McIsaac, the COC’s new podcast explores the operagoing experience from a kaleidoscope of perspectives, with special guests from the opera field and beyond.

Digital Roundtable with Live Q&A


Expanding on the COC’s popular Women in Opera event, artists and thinkers from within opera and the broader arts sector come together to discuss the confluence of gender, music and drama — from voice types, to tropes of machismo and damsels in distress, to the new ways that gender is being explored on stage today. This virtual event was moderated by Aria Umezawa, Canadian stage director, consultant, and co-founder of Amplified Opera.

Spring Break at the COC: Exploring New Opera

Interactive Digital Webinars

Hosted by COC Opera Teaching Artist Makenzie Morgan, Spring Break at the COC: Exploring New Opera gathers a group of artists and craftspeople to explore what it takes to create and stage a brand new opera, and what a career in the performing arts can look like. Participants will get a behind-the-scenes look at Fantasma, the company’s upcoming original Opera for Young Audiences for youth ages 12-18, now scheduled in the 2021/2022 season.


   

COC Ensemble Studio x Aga Khan Museum

Digital Concert

Enjoy a new "pocket performance" by artists of the COC Ensemble Studio! In partnership with the Aga Khan Museum, young artists Matthew Cairns, Jamie Groote, Alex Soloway, Midori Marshand Jonah Spungin present a varied program of favourite works by Handel, Donizetti, Giordano, and Dvořák.

The concert was recorded safely at the Aga Khan Museum in early November 2020 and is available to watch now.

COC x Why Not Theatre

Creative Residency

In November 2020, the COC welcomed Why Not Theatre to our rehearsal and performance spaces at 227 Front St. E. to support the exciting development of a Sanskrit opera adaptation of the Bhagavad Gita, which will feature in Why Not’s production of the Mahabharata.

This creative residency is part of the COC’s ongoing Culture Hub project, which seeks to lift up emerging voices in opera through creative partnerships and access to our venue spaces.




   

Dragon Ball

Virtual Fundraiser

On February 13, we helped welcome the Year of the Ox at Dragon Ball, the signature annual benefit gala for the Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation. This year’s virtual event features an array of entertainment from Toronto and the around globe, including performances by artists and graduates of the COC Ensemble Studio.
