The Canadian Opera Company (“COC”, “we” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This privacy policy (“Privacy Policy”) sets out how the COC collects, uses, and discloses personal information about you when you interact with us, including when you purchase tickets, subscribe, become a member, donate, visit our website www.coc.ca and all subdomains (collectively, our “Website”), and any other interactions with us. By using this website, you consent to the data practices described in this policy. Where required, the form of consent may be expressed or implied, depending on the sensitivity of the information and the circumstances of its collection.

We take responsibility for all personal information in our care. All staff, service providers, contractors, agents, and affiliated organizations that we work with are required to protect and handle your information in accordance with this policy.

Collection of your Personal Information

We may collect the following categories of personal information about you:

Name, home, and business address, telephone numbers, e-mail address 
Payment and financial information reasonably required to process transactions or donations 
Purchasing, ticketing, attendance, subscription, donation, and program participation history 
Medical information (related to seating needs and youth program participants)
Professional and personal relationships, affiliations, and activities 
Artistic preferences and other personal interests 
Patron communications such as letters, emails, survey responses, and verbal feedback 
Website, technical, and usage information collected through coc.ca or related digital services, including information collected through cookies and similar technologies 
Age and birth date

Where we collect medical information for participants in our camps and children's programs, we use it solely to provide a high-quality experience, address integration needs, and manage health and safety. We do not share this information with third parties, except as required by law or in a medical emergency, where disclosure is limited to medical personnel and law enforcement.

Use of your personal information

We use your personal information for the purpose for which it was collected, any other purpose you have consented to, and any other purpose permitted by law. This may include using your personal information for any of the purposes indicated below:

To communicate about COC programs, events, offers, fundraising projects, and other special initiatives.
To better understand the needs and desires of patrons, as well as to develop sales, service, and donor programs suitable to COC patrons 
To meet legal and regulatory requirements 
To operate, maintain, secure, and improve the COC’s website, systems, and digital communications 
To protect against error, fraud, and other criminal activity
Where permitted and subject to applicable consent requirements, to measure engagement, analyze website traffic, support effective marketing strategies, and manage digital advertising and related audience activities

On occasion, the COC may share data with trusted partners who support our operations, including statistical analysis, ticketing, payment processing, fundraising, outbound calling, surveys, neighbourhood mailings,, website, analytics, and marketing. These providers may access this information solely to perform services on the COC's behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.

The COC may use limited personal information such as email address, telephone number, and postal code, for the purpose of creating custom advertising audiences on third-party platforms, including but not limited to Meta (Facebook, Instagram) and Google Ads. 

You can control certain cookie preferences through your browser settings or, where available, through our website consent tools. Note that disabling some technologies may affect website functionality.

Any new use of your personal information requires approval by our Privacy Committee and Privacy Officer.

We do not sell, rent, exchange, or otherwise disclose personal information to any outside third party except where authorized and or required by law and as detailed in this privacy statement.

Accuracy, Access, and Opt-Out

The COC makes every effort to create and maintain accurate records and update them as new information is provided.

To protect your privacy, we may ask you to verify your identity before we provide access to or make corrections to your personal information.

Retention

All information collected is used by the COC for communicating with patrons, for patron service, and for patron analysis; information that does not serve these purposes will not be collected or retained. 

We will not use, store, or disclose your personal information for purposes other than those for which it was collected, except with your consent or as required by law. We retain personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill those purposes.
