The curtain rises on the magnificent Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts—Canada’s first and only purpose-built opera house—as we mark our artistic return to the stage. For the first time in 19 months, music fills the hall with a concert program of iconic arias and orchestral pieces from Bizet, Puccini, Verdi, and Wagner, among others.
Two of opera’s best-loved opera stars, baritone Russell Braun and soprano Tamara Wilson, reunite with the COC Music Director Johannes Debus and the COC Orchestra, presenting a carefully curated program that explores the vast spectrum of human experience and the vital spark of connection that the arts provide in a tumultuous and uncertain world.
This concert kicks off the COC’s A Season Like No Other, a first-of-its-kind streaming initiative making opera accessible for free to all Canadians, from coast to coast to coast.

- The water nymph Rusalka has fallen in love – from afar – with a Prince. With the witch Ježibaba’s help, she takes on human form in exchange for her voice and with the threat that if she cannot attain and hold the Prince’s affection, they will both be cursed to eternal damnation. When he betrays her, it is Rusalka’s great love for him that overcomes the curse and – as he proclaims his love for her – gives him peace in death.
