Light Exists in Spring
Caitlin Broms-Jacobs, oboe; Madeline Hildebrand, pianoInstrumental Series
A breath of warm air, a sunbeam through the window; spring brings optimism and renewed perspective.
From the exuberance of Rachmaninoff’s “Spring Waters” to the tranquil beauty of Fikret Amirov’s “Nocturne”, Bartok’s fiery Romanian Dances and the gripping narrative of Pavel Haas’s Oboe Suite, this is music which carries a powerful message of hope, resistance, and the promise of new beginnings. Known for their joyful and electrifying performances, pianist Madeline Hildebrand and oboist Caitlin Broms-Jacobs have been fast friends and musical collaborators since 2014, when the duo performed their first concert together on Winnipeg’s prestigious Millennium Recital Series. Self-described as “serious musicians who don’t take themselves too seriously”, the duo combine their infectious enthusiasm and unstuffy approach with sensitive and masterful playing, all with the goal of inspiring audiences and bringing joy through music.
