Sculptures in Motion: Discovering Odissi Dance

Thursday, May 7 at 12 p.m.

Shanthini Kangesan and Sapna Sehravat present an evocative afternoon of Odissi dance at the Canadian Opera Company, shaped by over 15 years of training under esteemed gurus including Menaka Thakkar, Sujata Mohapatra, Daksha Mashroowala, and Namrata Mehta.

The program features a rich blend of traditional repertoire: Battu Nritya, an offering to Lord Batuka Bhairava; Megh Pallavi, celebrating lyrical movement and musicality; and Mokshya, symbolizing spiritual liberation and concluding with an ode to Goddess Durga. The afternoon also includes an interactive demonstration and discussion, offering audiences insight into the history of Odissi and the artists’ personal connection to this timeless classical form.
