Ryan Trew

Dr. Ryan Trew is a composer, percussionist, and music theory pedagogue. As a composer, Ryan’s works have been performed by renowned Canadian ensembles including the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Prince George Symphony Orchestra, the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, and the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra. Trew previously collaborated with Rachel Krehm on episode nine of Threepenny Submarine - Season 1, which was a 2024 winner of Opera America’s Digital Excellence in Opera Award - Noteworthy Project.

Rachel Krehm

Soprano Rachel Krehm is the co-founder and General Director of Opera 5. She works in opera, new music, art song, improvisation, voice and web-series acting, and is also a writer and producer. Her first libretto, Come Closer, began as an orchestral song cycle, which she and her family commissioned by Ryan Trew set to her late sister Elizabeth’s evocative poetry.

Krehm has produced both traditional live opera and digital projects with Opera 5 for over a decade. She is also the co-creator of Threepenny Submarine, which combines puppetry, animation, and opera to introduce children and their families to the world of opera and classical music. Threepenny Submarine made its international debut in Rotterdam in May 2024 and is a winner of a 2024 Digital Excellence Award presented by Opera America.
