Confined in Everyday Scenes is a powerful suite of works for solo cello and fixed electronics that confronts the hidden realities of modern-day slavery and human trafficking.

Composed by Frank Horvat at the invitation of cellist Joann Whang, the work draws listeners into intimate moments inspired by the true stories of survivors, using contrasting soundscapes that juxtapose familiar everyday textures with the stark realities of exploitation. Through nine pieces—from a nail salon to a busy street to a quiet park—the music illuminates the tension between ordinary life and the devastating experiences of those trapped in servitude. With support from Laura T. Murphy's scholarship and insights from survivors and advocacy organizations, this project aims to raise awareness, challenge perceptions, and honour the resilience of those who have endured these experiences.
