Even if you don’t know the language an opera is being sung in, you’ll be able to follow along thanks to a COC innovation: SURTITLES™, which are a simultaneous translation projected above the stage.
The opera’s production page will also have a synopsis, if you’d like to know the full story before you attend the performance.
Do I need to dress up?

There is no dress code at the Four Seasons Centre! Our audience members enjoy opera in everything from formal attire to jeans. We advise dressing for comfort and flair—we want you to have a wonderful time, and also enjoy the opera as a special occasion.
In consideration of patrons with allergies, we do ask that you kindly refrain from wearing scented products and fragrances. Masks are strongly recommended but not required.
When should I arrive?

The venue’s main doors typically open one hour prior to showtime.
Late seating cannot be guaranteed, so we encourage patrons to arrive early to relax and enjoy the venue’s amenities. The Four Seasons Centre features stunning views of the city as well as an in-house collection of art installations. Concessions are also typically open before the performance.

It depends on the opera! Please feel free to chat with a Ticket Services Representative to learn more about a particular production. You can also consult a production’s webpage for story details and content advisories.
Youth under 15 and patrons under 30 are eligible for specially priced tickets.
How long is a typical opera?
How long is a typical opera?
Operas vary widely in their runtimes, from about 90 minutes all the way up to an epic six hours. Performances that run over 90 minutes typically have an intermission.

Why do some people cheer bravo/brava/bravi?
When an audience member really enjoys a performance, they might let the artists know by standing and cheering "bravo" (for male singers), "brava" (for female singers), or "bravi" (for a group of singers, the orchestra, or as a gender-neutral option).
What does "toi toi toi" mean?
What does "toi toi toi" mean?
Similar to “break a leg,” the phrase “toi toi toi” is said to wish an artist good luck before a performance, especially on opening night.
