• Moonstruck: Today's Links, July 27

    When it comes to Hollywood movies with iconic opera scenes, few are more iconic than the scene in 1987's Moonstruck where the characters played by Cher and Nicolas Cage see La Bohème at the Metropolitan Opera. But as David Fleischer at Torontoist reports, the stage of Markham Theatre stands in for Lincoln Center in the excerpts from La Bohème (the shots of the exterior and the couple watching the performance in the auditorium were taken at the Met). Lotfi Mansouri, our general director at that time, helped put together the cinematic opera performance, and is listed in the movie's credits. Read more at Torontoist! 

    Update: Another COC connection: the singer who plays Rodolfo in the scene is Ensemble Studio graduate and Order of Canada recipient John Fanning!
